STEP  (Skills Training to Enhance Performance) Forward
Johnson County Government Employee Development Classes

The STEP (Skills Training to Enhance Performance) Forward program is designed to give Johnson County Government employees a variety of tools and skills that enable them to perform their jobs with excellence and contribute to the achievement of the County’s mission and strategic goals.

STEP Forward Foundations, the class that serves as the prerequisite for other STEP Forward modules, is offered once every other month. Enrollment is available through ORACLE self-service on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no charge for STEP Forward Foundations.  The Cadre, a group of County employees, delivers the training in conjunction with the Department of Human Resources.

The one-day STEP Forward Foundations course emphasizes the importance and application of the County’s mission, strategic goals, and values in delivering high quality services to the public, and includes presentations from County Manager Mike Press, and Hannes Zacharias, Deputy County Manager. In addition, STEP Forward Foundations introduces the concept of emotional intelligence (EQ), and demonstrates how EQ skills are critical to everyone’s success, both on and off the job.

Subsequent STEP Forward modules will provide focused skills training in areas such as conflict management, personal styles, and meeting management.  The cost for attending a module is $30.
